The Shoreline Parks Improvement Project brought together eight unique park sites under one Progressive Design-Build (PDB) contract, creating a unified effort to expand recreation opportunities across the City of Shoreline. Improvements range from a new accessible boardwalk in the city’s botanical garden, to fully inclusive playgrounds, to the community’s first spray parks. Join us for a panel discussion with members of the PDB project team as they share how flexibility, creativity, and openness — hallmarks of the progressive design-build process — have been essential to navigating diverse sites, balancing community needs, and driving the project’s success to date.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand how flexibility, creativity, and openness in the PDB process can be applied to deliver complex, community-focused projects.
  2. Learn strategies for coordinating multiple project sites and scopes under a single design-build team, while maintaining efficiency and alignment.
  3. Examine how inclusive design solutions, from accessible boardwalks to spray parks, were achieved through collaborative engagement and integrated project delivery.

Alex Niemi is a Senior Project Engineer with FORMA Construction, currently working with Mithun on the Shoreline Parks Bundle Progressive Design Build Project.  Previously he has completed two GC/CM projects in the education sector and has spent five years working on Job Order Contracts throughout the Puget Sound region.  He enjoys seeing projects succeed through creative interdisciplinary problem solving.

Kasia Keeley is a Landscape Architect and Senior Associate at Mithun.  She is currently managing the Shoreline Parks Bundle project for the design team and has worked on several interdisciplinary college campus projects using the design/build delivery method with the team at Mithun.  Her favorite projects are ones that reduce off-site waste and increase out-of-the-box solutions.

Puja Kashyap is partner at KPFF where she has spent over 20 years of her career. As a consultant, her passion lies in helping her clients solve engineering challenges in creative ways. As a leader, she is fulfilled by nurturing the unique values everyone brings to her diverse team at KPFF. Her current projects include the Everett Outdoor Multipurpose Stadium, the UW Chemical Sciences Building, and 12 different Parks projects utilizing various delivery methods – including Progressive Design Build – in the City of Shoreline.
