Budget Constrained Higher Education Renovations & Leveraging Progressive Design-Build

 

In this presentation the Design-Build team and Owner on an active renovation project for WSU’s College of Medicine (scheduled to be completed Fall 2023), will discuss their successes and challenges to delivering a large-scale project (113,000 SF) on a narrow budget ($9.6 Million GMP). The team will discuss several project specific challenges they faced during design and how they were overcome using the Progressive Design-Build to design and deliver a project without sacrificing quality.

As in previous years, the December breakfast presentation will include a food donation and raffle. All donations go to benefit the Oregon Food Bank. To receive a raffle ticket, either bring 5 cans of food to the event, or make a $10 dollar donation. Donation can be made at time of registration or in person at the event.

Nick Byers, AIA, Assoc. DBIA, is an associate principal at Hennebery Eddy Architects in Portland, where he has worked on numerous academic projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. He has been active in DBIA Oregon since 2017 and is the chapter’s president, advocating for progressive design build best practices and strengthening relationships between owners, architects, contractors, and trade partners to optimize design goals and constructability. Nick holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon.

Scott received a bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering from Montana State University is 2002. He as been working in construction for the past 20 years, Scott’s career has given him the opportunity to work in all phases of construction, utilizing multiple delivery methods . He currently operates as Director of Preconstruction services at Bouten construction company.
