The Inland Northwest Chapter’s Design-Build 101 Workshop
Prepared by Tina Campanella, MBA. Sr. Associate | Business Development & Marketing – Integrus Architecture
On November 9th, the Inland Northwest chapter of DBIA Northwest Region, once again, held a Design-Build 101 introductory workshop for members and area AEC professionals. People who were new to the design-build world, as well as those who are more seasoned, were led through an exciting and fun team-oriented workshop that displayed design-build delivery.
Nine project teams of 5-10 members each maneuvered through the different phases of the design-build process including responding to an RFP with your team’s “secret sauce,” validation review with the owner, design and cost estimating, reaching GMP, and hands-on construction of a snowman. INW DBIA Board members role played as project owners, providing guidance, parameters, and even a few unforeseen curveballs as the teams mimicked a real-world Design-Build experience. Fun was had by all as they delivered an army of snow people that met their respective owners’ goals. Through this activity, participants were shown the importance of true team integration and collaborative delivery.
