The Oregon Chapter of DBIA presented their Attorney Forum at an in person event on June 14that The Sentinel Hotel in Portland. This continues the chapter’s annual practice of organizing a diverse group of attorneys to discuss general topics related to design-build and other procurement methods. This year’s presentation featured Sean C. Gay, Partner Stoel Rives LLP’s Construction & Design Group, Dean E. Aldrich, Founder Aldrich Goldstein and Jesse C. Ormond, Senior Associate Stewart Sokol & Larkin. The program started with a brief introduction and sponsor recognition and included a special “DEI Moment” from Diana Delgado (Workforce and Contracting Equity Manager for the Office of Planning and Capital Construction at Portland Community College). Diana discussed workplace safety focusing on diversity and inclusion related to how minorities and women are impacted in the construction industry.

A lively panel discussion followed, moderated by current DBIA Oregon Program Co-Chair, Mariel Acevedo. The panel discussed how disruptions to global supply chains have impacted project procurement and delivery, they covered topics focused on observed impacts and approaches for dealing with these issues on future projects and projects that are already under contract. Highlights included comparisons between year over year construction material cost increases and delays in shipping/transportation across the globe. The panel also discussed how these issues affect construction contracts; changing terms and conditions, terminations and quality of construction. The program concluded with responses to questions from the audience in attendance. Overall, the presentation was well attended with individuals representing the construction industry, project owners and design professionals
