Airport Design-Build Team Shares Lessons Learned

The Western Washington DBIA chapter held its monthly breakfast program at the Columbia Tower Club in Seattle, May 8, 2019. The meeting included a panel presentation by the owner, general contractor, and architectural teams who worked together on a recent award-winning design-build project at the SeaTac International Airport.Â
Janet Zahn from the Port of Seattle facilitated the presentation and discussions with panelist Patty Bergstedt from the Port of Seattle, Doug Benjamin of northwest-based Walsh Construction, and Todd Buchanan of HOK, a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm. This design-build team shared their experiences working on the award-winning Concourse D Annex project at the Sea-Tac Airport including challenges, opportunities and lessons learned. The Design-Build method of teamwork and collaboration beginning early in the design process resulted in the successful delivery of a beautiful and highly-functional facility for the traveling public.
The events attendees made up primarily public and private owners, architects, contractors, engineers and students, reported to be very satisfied with the meeting and found the content very valuable according to the post-event survey.
